Positive: If you’re looking for an off grid getaway, this will likely suit you. Beautiful renovated old cabin, with nice modern features. Thoughtfully curated. Close proximity to the park. Negative: A few things made this stay not quite perfect for us. Mentioning them in case relevant for any future visitors. Firstly, the property feels more remote than it is. You cannot see the road, your neighbours, just the surrounding trees. I imagine that this is the point, to unwind etc. However, at night, this scared us, made worse by the fact that none of the windows (including bedroom windows that had direct decking outside) had curtains or blinds - so the entire property looked out into darkness. Maybe we are used to the city, but we didn’t sleep well due to some safety anxiety. Secondly, the drive was difficult to get up. We had a 4-wheel jeep, and our wheels spun in the gravel. We had to park at the bottom and carry quite heavy cases up the steep drive. Finally, a recommendation, bring food from outside of Winthrop and bias towards cooking at home, as availability in the town is thin. We ate out one night in Packwood, but it required a 1hr drive home in the dark through the state forest, which felt again very remote.

Hosts were really great at communicating and making us feel welcome with lots of details around the cabin making it feel Positive: Stunning location and a beautiful, comfy and fun home to base ourselves out of. The hot tub and deck areas were great for relaxing in the quiet and beautiful forest.

Positive: The view was wonderful, the utilities and things to do were very thoughtful (especially the hot tub and wood stove), and the aesthetic was pleasing. Negative: I know it's all about unplugging (and this is only a minor nitpick that did not affect our enjoyment), but it would have been super fun to have an old CRT TV in the living room to watch a movie next to the fireplace.
